Montreux Christmas Market Weekend
Located on the shores of lake Geneva, the Montreux Christmas market is one of the most beautiful in Switzerland with its artisans and merchants, gift ideas by the thousand and chalets decorated in the grand tradition of Christmas. Try some mulled wine or woodcutter's tea around a blazing fire,or visit this years guest country's pavillion - Russia - and sample the culture and cuisine of this vast country.
There are several themed areas to this years market.
The Christmas Market itself which runs along the shores of the lake and also the covered market with over 140 craftsmen and lots of food stands offering everything from fondues and raclettes to sausages and gratins.
The Russian pavillion at the Place du Marche with 10 chalets decorated in Russian style.
The Medieval market at the renowned Chateau de Chillion - stopping off point of the crusaders and Lord Byron alike. The purpose of this market is to show how life was in medieval times, all in costume, with medieval food and entertainment and stalls displaying the crafts of the time.
And for the children amongst us there is Father Christmas' grotto at Rocheurs de Naye at 2040 m above Montreux. Take the train (bookings required) and wind your way up into the snow covered mountains to see Santa in his grotto. Lots of entertainment for the kids!
Combine this with either a day at Lavey les Bains and indulge yourself floating in the thermal water, timeout in the relaxation room, a quick steam or sauna before taking one of the many treatments on offer. Or a day sking in Chatel with a spot of mountain lunch before catching your flight home. Or why not spend 3 nights with us at La Ferme du Chateau and do all three: Montreux Christmas Market, a day at the spa and a day skiing.
Portes du Soleil will be open from 10th December so why not try a pre Christmas ski break and be home in time for Christmas - special pre season prices see right hand panel
